INTERESTING / IMPORTANT VEHICLE HISTORY AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS:

The post war Mercury began production in 1946 with conventional styling that essentially evolved from the pre-war 1941 Fords. Mercury was always marketed as an upgraded Ford with additional trim, and often higher performance engines. Engineering developed all steel bodies mounted on a separate all steel frame. The six cylinder or flathead V8 engines were mounted in front and drove the rear wheels. A major redesign occurred in 1949 with much sleeker body lines and only one trim level. A second significant redesign resulted in 1952 with a Custom and Monterey trim levels available. Also in 1954 the first overhead valve “Y” block V8 that displaced 256 cubic inches was offered. The wheelbase of these full size cars was 118 inches with an overall length of over 200 inches. This car is a 1951 Mercury 4 door sedan. It has been completely restored and shows no significant aging or wear since it has been used very little since the restoration work was complete. The car is in excellent 1.5 condition with few flaws or detractions.
